9-11 May 2025

Since this is not a club-organised event, the organiser has specified that anyone planning to sail must be at RYA Basic Skills (Level 2) ability or above.

Ullswater, one of the larger lakes in the Lake District, is located near Penrith, approximately 2.5–3 hours from the club. We’ll be staying at Parkfoot Campsite, situated at the Pooley Bridge end of the lake. If you choose to camp on the Lakeside or Euseriggs fields, you have the option to bring a boat for an additional fee of £5 per night. This fee includes all necessary access to get out on the water.

The slipway is about a 250m walk from the campsite, mostly along a tarmac road leading directly to the water’s edge.

For sailor safety, I’ll be bringing my RIB, which will be available for recovery and towing if conditions change unexpectedly, such as a sudden loss of wind

The plan for the weekend

If the winds are favourable, we may sail the full length of Ullswater, which is approximately 14 miles round trip. However, there will also be the option for those who prefer a more relaxed sail to potter around closer to the campsite. There’s a great halfway point on the lake where we can stop for a bite to eat. This can serve as either a lunch stop or a turning point, depending on what suits everyone’s plans.

For evening meals, you’re welcome to sort out your own food or eat out. In the past, we’ve often held a Saturday night BBQ where everyone can cook their own food – feel free to bring a portable BBQ if you’d like to join in. If you need extra supplies, the on-site shop sells food and drinks, and Penrith is just a 15-minute drive away for additional options.
