Why Does GP Marine Yorkshire Exist?
The story of GP Marine Yorkshire began in 2020, right after I completed my powerboat instructor course. Eager to run my own courses, I quickly realised I needed a RIB. After exploring options with local volunteer clubs, I decided to purchase my own boat. I found a unique Osprey XR18, known for its hard nose and capability in big seas.
After a few years of using the boat, I was approached by a local youth sailing organisation to lend them my RIB. This experience made me realise the potential for a larger venture. Shortly after, I launched GP Marine Yorkshire to provide support for sailing events, addressing the ongoing need for safety boats and assistance at events

RYA Young Volunteer Award
In 2021, I was honored to receive the RYA Young Volunteer Award in recognition of my dedication and hard work at my local sailing club. The award was presented by HRH Princess Anne, who even inquired about the Ulley Dam and whether it was still holding strong. I played an instrumental role in reopening the club when Covid restrictions allowed, setting up a booking system to manage member access safely and developing a new website to improve communication and engagement within the club.

About me
Introduction to dinghy sailing
From a young age, I have participated in sailing activities, especially during beach club holidays abroad, where I joined junior sessions. I have also sailed on numerous trips in destinations like Turkey, Greece, the Balearics, the British Virgin Islands, and Portugal.
After several sailing holidays, my parents joined our local sailing club to support my interest. I began crewing for an experienced instructor who taught me much of what I know today.
With his guidance, I’ve participated in a variety of sailing events across ponds, rivers, the sea, and larger reservoirs, gaining valuable experience and deepening my passion for sailing.

Progression
I have owned multiple boats throughout my sailing journey, starting with my mum’s Comet dinghy, which I used to race. In 2017, I purchased a Laser dinghy, which I still own and actively race today, enjoying the thrill and competition it brings. I also previously owned an Enterprise dinghy, but I decided to sell it due to crewing issues that made it difficult to continue racing effectively.
Currently, my fleet consists of two boats: the Laser (ILCA), which continues to be a source of enjoyment and challenge, and a RIB that I use for a variety of events. The RIB is invaluable for supporting club activities and providing safety for fellow sailors during races. My experiences with these boats have deepened my love for sailing and enhanced my skills on the water.
